Plug and play

"I was looking for a helmet for commuting and some road riding. I cycle through a few helmets depending on what I'm riding. I was hesitant on the KinetiCore vs MIPS on the Sphere but opted to give it a try. I have a Z1 with MIPS and was very happy with the venting on it as well as it's weight. The Sphere is heavier and doesn't have the same venting as the Z1 but thought I'd give it a shot for the price. Also read mixed reviews on the non adjustable straps but, again, the price was right. Out of the box, this helmet fit like a glove. I didn't have to adjust anything. It feels lighter than it's claimed weight and the venting is pretty good for having aero qualities. I rode in the dead of summer on the some of the hottest days and I tend to run hot as it is, and this did not disappoint. It doesn't vent like the Z1 but vents just fine for the hottest of days. I was pleasantly surprised. The straps lie nicely and not having adjustability wasn't an issue for me. Might be lucky in that sense, but looking at the placement of the joints of the strap, it looks like a pretty universal fit. Here's the main reason for my review, the safety and durability of this helmet. I was involved in a very bad crash and the first impact was directly on my head. This helmet saved my life hands down. I walked away with a lot of injuries but did not suffer a concussion or any head trauma. I expected to have a shattered helmet and although it was damaged, I was shocked it hadn't cracked upon impact. It took damage and needs replaced for sure, but no cracks and it held up very well overall. Very impressed and thankful for it's construction. I don't know if you can beat this helmet for the price with the features you get. Also, Lazer has a crash replacement program which is an additional bonus. 5+ stars in my opinion. I typically wear a medium and this fits like a glove."

Retention system is very fragile

"After about a month of ownership and a handful of uses (I cycle through three or so helmets throughout the week). The retention system no longer holds the adjustment, the dial still functions but backs off on its own. Pretty disappointed with the overall quality of this particular helmet despite being a fan of the Vento and the G1 Mips."

"Absolutely love it!!! Looks great and feels great. Actually looking forward to a crash."

Nice Helmet, strap bait and switch

"The marketing material on the Lazer website shows adjustable straps around the ears but the helmet received had straps sown together at a set height. The unchangeable strap was too short for my ears so the helmet was returned. I'm not sure I can trust Lazer or any Shimano product going forward."

Fits like a glove

"I have a hard time finding helmets that fit comfortably, but this one is great. I’m pleased with this purchase."

Q&A

What size helmet should I get I am 58 cm looking at sherer
Hello John, you would fall in the range of a medium helmet. The Sphere Kineticore medium range is 55-59cm.
Does this helmet have similar rounder than usual shape like the Sphere mips model?
Hello Remon, The Sphere KinetiCore has a different internal shape as compared to the Sphere MIPS helmet. As opposed to the more rounded shape of the MIPS version, the Sphere KinetiCore has the more traditional oval internal shape as is found in the rest of the current Lazer helmet product line.
