California SB 1215 Recycling Fee

Information for Lazer Customers in California

Effective January 1, 2026, certain Lazer products sold in California will include a Covered Battery-Embedded Product Recycling Fee. This fee is mandated by Senate Bill (SB) 1215, which updates California’s Electronic Waste Recycling Act of 2003.

What Is a Covered Battery-Embedded Product?

A “covered battery-embedded product” is any product that contains a battery not designed to be easily removed by the user with standard household tools. These products require proper collection and recycling at the end of their lifecycle.

Lazer Products Affected

The following Lazer products with lithium ion batteries fall under SB 1215 and will include the required recycling fee:

• Universal Rechargeable LED Taillight

• Lazer VeloVox

How the Fee Works

• The recycling fee will be collected at checkout and shown as a separate line on your receipt. •

Retailers are required by law to collect and submit this fee to the state of California.

• The amount of the fee is determined by CalRecycle (California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery).

Why This Matters

This program ensures that products containing embedded batteries are safely collected and recycled, helping protect the environment and support California’s sustainability goals. Learn More For additional details, please visit the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA)
