What Is KinetiCore and Why Did Lazer Create It?

KinetiCore is Lazer's integrated impact protection technology, designed to help manage both direct and rotational impact forces using engineered crumple zones built directly into the helmet's EPS construction.

Rather than adding a separate protective liner, Lazer developed KinetiCore as part of the helmet itself. The goal was to combine impact protection with low weight, ventilation, comfort, and more efficient material use.

How Did Lazer Develop KinetiCore?

What Inspired KinetiCore's Controlled Crumple Zones?

One of the major breakthroughs came from a familiar concept in automotive engineering: crumple zones.

In a car, certain structures are designed to deform during a collision to help manage impact energy. That idea helped inspire Lazer's engineers to experiment with specially shaped structures inside a bicycle helmet.

The result was Controlled Crumple Zones, engineered sections of EPS designed to deform during certain impacts and help manage energy within the helmet.

Lazer tested thousands of digital concepts and more than 5,000 physical helmets during the development process before arriving at the KinetiCore designs used in production.

Why Build Impact Protection Into the Helmet?

Lazer wanted KinetiCore to do more than address impact forces. The system also needed to work alongside the other performance characteristics riders expect from a modern helmet.

By integrating the Controlled Crumple Zones directly into the EPS, Lazer could optimize the surrounding helmet structure for low weight, ventilation, and impact protection.

Removing the need for a separate internal liner can also reduce additional material and create more freedom for airflow channels and ventilation openings.

The result is KinetiCore, an integrated system designed around the entire helmet rather than added after the core structure is complete.

Yes. KinetiCore technology is also used in select Lazer kids' helmets, allowing the same integrated impact protection concept to be adapted for younger riders.

Kids' helmet designs can combine KinetiCore with child-friendly features such as easy-adjust fit systems, side-positioned buckles designed to reduce skin pinching, and shapes that work well with bike seats or trailers.
